Where The Wild Things Are filmed at 10 different locations across Victoria as well as on three sound stages at Melbourne Central City Studio. Director Spike Jonze moved to Melbourne for six months to work on the film and loved the lifestyle the city afforded.

The film is based on the popular children's book by Maurice Sendak and combines live action and animatronics with computer generated characters.  Due to the high level of VFX, the post production approach for this film was unique.

After the 35mm film negatives were processed each day at Deluxe Melbourne, the dailies were managed by Digital Pictures in a two step process -- Dailies Telecine and Daily Scanning for Digital Intermediate and VFX. This process maximised the efficiency for editorial, on-set viewings and enabled the DI and VFX to commence in conjunction with the shoot. The HDCam Dailies tape was also used to create select cuts for Warner Bros in LA which were conformed and streamed daily via a high speed broadband delivery system.

Iloura set up an on-site VFX station at the studios and worked very closely with the VFX supervisors on Where The Wild Things Are using key frame animation and projection mapping techniques to bring the characters to life.
